The Wastewater Division operates and maintains the wells, pumping stations, and water tanks that provide water for the City. We also operate the wastewater pumping stations and wastewater treatment plant that assists in collection and provides treatment for the wastewater that our City generates. Treated wastewater is then discharged into the Rio Grande at a much higher standard than is required by Federal and State regulators. Sludge from the plant is currently landfilled, but our Division staff is researching the possibility of composting it instead. This will conserve landfill capacity and convert the sludge into a valuable asset. Critical facilities have stand-by, on-site generators to assure continued operation in the event of a power failure.<
